METALLOGRAPHY
Metallography is the study of a materials microstructure. Microstructures have a strong influence on the properties and successful application of metals and alloys. Metallurgical analysis of the microstructural provides the Material Scientist or Metallurgist information varying from phase structure, grain size, solidification structure, casting voids, etc. The basic steps in any metallographic examination include: specimen cutting/sectioning, mounting, rough and final polishing, etching and microscopic analysis.
Vollmer-Gray’s metallurgical laboratory is fully equipped with metallographic sample preparation capabilities from sectioning, mounting the specimens, grinding, polishing and etching techniques. Our experience in sample preparation includes metallic, plastics, composites, and electronics components.
